Alcon’s takeover of Ciba Vision is on track…

May 27, 2011

I spoke with a regional district manager the other day from what was Ciba Vision. He says in June he expects to turn in his name tag and get a new one that says Alcon.
He does not expect to lose sales rep positions, but to grow by making more reps available.

Lets see what happens.

Alcon to Take over Ciba Vision, all under Novartis

December 16, 2010

Who will run the ophthalmic portion of Novartis?

Alcon has been a leader in the ophthalmic industry for years. Ciba Vision has had its ups and downs. It has fired all of my reps, and hired new untrained ones. Alcon has some of the best reps in the industry.

The news about the final takeover of Alcon came with an interesting tidbit that Ciba Vision and Novartis Ophthalmic drugs will go under the name Alcon.

I hope Alcon ends up managing the unit.

Alcon will be purchased by Novartis, parent of Ciba Vision

January 9, 2010

Novartis is purchasing the majority portion of Alcon in the next few months. Novartis is then acquiring the remaining portion of Alcon by using Swiss law to purchase the outstanding shares.

This looks like a good move in my opinion for Alcon an Novartis. They do not compete with one another, except in a very small category of products. It makes Novartis a larger player in the surgical field of ophthalmology, and places Novartis as a major supplier of dry eye products and ocular antibiotics. There is some competition in the dry eye over-the-counter market. I prescribe and recommend both companies’ products.

This places Allergan, AMO, and Ciba Vision(a wholly owned subsidiary of Novartis) in the ability to compete globally.
